BRIGHT PLAZA, INC.

In 1992, when the Internet was still a mystery to most of that small minority of people who had even heard of it, Bright Plaza, Inc., (then doing business as Television Computer, Inc.) was formed by Dr. Robert Thibadeau, Principal Research Scientist and Associate Director of the eCommerce Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, as a commercial R&D company delivering local communities life-enhancing data whenever and wherever people needed it most. Dr. Thibadeau was among the first to recognize that the Internet not only had the potential to change the world, but that change was inevitable and was coming far more quickly than most people imagined.

At the time, it was known that digital broadcast television, such as satellite and cable, used only a portion of its bandwidth for the audio and video signal. Ample space also existed in the digital airwaves for the transmission of other data - weather, shopping information, breaking news, and business advertisements. This is the data we take for granted today on the Internet. Bright Plaza was created with the vision of taking these community-empowering data streams and pumping them simultaneously onto the Internet and into a set-top box - a television computer - that would enable viewers to receive information tailored to their particular needs and desires. Through Bright Plaza's focus on local community empowerment, several patents were obtained that tied these data to geographic functions. Bright Plaza viewers could customize their local news and shopping data flows to their own geographic locations and movements.

In 1995, Bright Plaza developed one of the first database driven Internet technologies for its community, ParticiPageŽ, and, with WQED Pittsburgh, became the first digital broadcaster of World Wide Web content. But broadcast standards did not keep pace with telephonic progress so Bright Plaza innovations today is mainly focused on large scale Internet Systems available at the desktop.

Our community orientation served Bright Plaza well as we became what we are today, a company that strategically designs and builds interactive communications systems -- from goal-driven concept to commercial realization. We have created interactive communication devices for all types of businesses and organizations - from small local stores to national Web magazines and communities of interest. With our core business in place and growing, Bright Plaza now continues to explore and develop new concepts for expanding the potential of the Internet in everyone's lives.

CORE BUSINESS - STRATEGY-DRIVEN INTERNET SYSTEMS R&D

Bright Plaza strategically builds interactive communications. What this means is that we try to help our customers figure out before any design work begins what precisely they hope to accomplish. Target audience, business objectives, development budget - all of these things need to dictate both design and function. The days of building a Website simply for the sake of having a Website are long gone. Bright Plaza is committed to communications-design-by-objective.

How are we able to do this? Our senior architecture and development team is supported by a permanent diverse in-house staff that brings both creativity and years of experience to the table. With our own programmers, graphic designers, database designers, and business strategists, we customize our projects to the needs of clients who have ranged from financial institutions to retail establishments to hospitals.

We have built hundreds of projects. And we must be doing something right. Currently, there are many new projects in our development pipeline.
